Parkson and MIOX Employees Run a 200 Mile Relay Race

Albuquerque, New Mexico (PRWEB) January 19, 2012

More than a race, it was an unforgettable experience. This is the feeling shared by Parkson and MIOX employees that participated on the last Ragnar Relay Florida Keys race that took place between January 6-7, 2012.

The companies joined together to create one team the Water Boys for the 200 mile adventure race. Starting in Miami and finishing in Key West, the relay offered a unique opportunity to run near the ocean side, and across the southern end of the state of Florida. Along the way, they ran across multiple bridges including the Seven Mile Bridge hopping from key to key, passing through Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon Key and Big Pine Key with the race wrapping up in Key West.

Everything went just perfect! celebrated teams captain Chris Burt, Parksons Aftermarket Operations Leader. We had a blast. The weather was great, everyone was excited. This is something we will never forget.

Besides the 12 runners, who ran distances between 10 and 20 miles in three separate legs over two days, the team also counted on four drivers and safety officers, 90 bottles of water, 79 bottles of energy drinks, 30 feet of healthy sandwiches, 25 protein bars, 24 bagels and 15 bottles of chocolate milk to survive the journey.

I have to admit that I was anxious at first says Parkson CEO, Zain Mahmood. However, there was such positive energy in the air. It was simply amazing! It is something I definitely recommend to anybody. Given the opportunity, I would love to run again next year!

“It succeeded on two levels” added MIOX CEO, Carlos Perea. “There was a sense of personal accomplishment. But more significant was the team building. The excitement of supporting and rooting on teammates was infectious. Everyone developed strong personal bonds in a very short time.”

Besides the race itself that received more than 500 teams, 6,000 runners and 1,000 vehicles Parkson and MIOX employees also collected and donated 200 pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls, a Nashville-based charity that collects and distributes shoes to people in need, in over 127 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States.

New Research Reveals Benefits of RFID for Apparel Suppliers

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) January 15, 2012

New research from the University of Arkansas quantifies benefits that apparel suppliers can gain from the use of radio frequency identification (RFID), it was announced today by the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) and GS1 US, the studys sponsors.

In a year-long project, researchers found the potential for suppliers to realize both top- and bottom-line improvements via increased inventory accuracy, cycle count reductions and minimized chargebacks. The results were presented during a workshop held by the VICS Item Level RFID Initiative at the National Retail Federations Big Show in New York. The research is available for download from the University of Arkansas Web site.

The University of Arkansas report published today offers a greater understanding of the many uses of RFID technology for the apparel industry particularly in the area of inventory accuracy, said AAFA Special Advisor Mary Howell. By exploring these use cases, apparel and footwear brands can begin to see the full range of benefits RFID can provide when working to remain competitive in the global market by streamlining the supply chain and continuing to deliver quality, safe, and affordable clothes and shoes to American consumers.

Key Findings

The research titled Supplier Return on Investment Use Case Data Collection and Analysis is the second phase in a three-phase study commonly referred to as the Many-to-Many study. It focused on three supplier use cases identified during Phase I of this research published in January 2011.

Researchers measured the benefits that apparel suppliers can achieve by adopting RFID based on GS1 Electronic Product Code (EPC) standards. They quantified the effects of EPC-based tracking on improving the suppliers’ inventory accuracy, along with the effects on their productivity, costs, and revenues.

In one use case, increased inventory accuracy, researchers discovered that suppliers estimates for their outbound shipments were much higher than the actual shipment count accuracy, in part because the companies were auditing very small percentages of those shipments. The costs of incorrect shipments, including chargebacks, are very high. With EPC-based RFID enabling audits on 100 percent of shipments, the frequency of incorrect shipments can drop to zero, creating savings equal to the cost of implementing the RFID system.

The research captures the first efforts of retail suppliers to shift their focus from just playing catch up to retailer source tagging requirements, to truly leveraging the full value of item level tags by discovering the benefit and the value in their own supplier operations, said Justin Patton, Managing Director, ITRI/RFID Research Center, University of Arkansas.

The simple concept behind the study is to answer the question, What happens when suppliers move beyond EPC tagging just for their retail partners sake, and begin to internally capture and use EPC data from their tagged items? said Patrick Javick, vice president, industry engagement, GS1 US. Retailers use standardized RFID technology to improve inventory accuracy, and now with EPC, suppliers can also feel confident of the high level of accuracy in their shipments.

In addition to the key findings, the research highlights the critical relationship between apparel suppliers and retailers and encourages continued collaboration in the widespread adoption of RFID. As such, AAFA and GS1 US are active supporters of the VICS Item Level RFID Initiative (VILRI). The initiative, formed in 2010, is an inter-industry group of retailers, manufacturers, and industry stakeholders with the mission of exploring the benefits that EPC-enabled RFID technology holds for the retail industry.

Research results for the Phase II University of Arkansas supplier study were captured in a paper available at http://itri.uark.edu/104.asp?code=rfid&article=ITRI-WP159-1211. They were also discussed during webinars hosted by AAFA and GS1 US in December. Recordings are available for replay on the AAFA Web site.

Sports Science Researchers Choose F-Scan? Datalogger for Analyzing Elite Athletes

Boston, MA (PRWEB) January 12, 2012

Tekscans new F-Scan Datalogger system was the measurement tool of choice for accurate data collection on a recent episode of ESPNs Sports Science titled Dwight Howard: Max Vertical Reach. The Sports Science team has used the F-Scan system for years to capture foot pressure and force data on top athletes, and new Datalogger electronics make it even better at capturing data during quick contact activities like the high jump Howard performed for the episode.

Freedom of Movement and Improved Data Capture

In order to better understand how Howard was able to break Shaquille ONeals record for max vertical reach, the Sports Science research team needed to quantify the vertical force he applied as he pushed off the ground. They chose the F-Scan Datalogger system because of its high sampling rate and its ability to capture force and pressure information without interfering with the athletes natural motion. As Howard moved through his routine, paper-thin in-shoe sensors transmitted force, pressure and timing data to the lightweight Datalogger Unit attached at his waist. The data was recorded onto the systems internal 8 GB memory stick, where it was stored until he completed all of his jumps. Since the system does not require a physical connection to a computer, Howard had complete freedom of movement throughout his routine. And, since the sensors were in his shoes, he did not have to worry about targeting a specific area to push off of a force plate.

The F-Scan Datalogger offers scan rates of up to 750 Hz – approximately 10x faster than any similar product on the market – making it the best system available for measuring interface pressure during quick contact activities such as running or jumping. It is the newest addition to the F-Scan product line, which also offers tethered, Wireless (Wi-Fi) and Combination Units. F-Scan systems provide many biomechanical parameters, such as force and time graphs and Center of Force (CoF) trajectory during stance phases; giving the user an unparalleled understanding of what is occurring during the gait cycle.

Tekscans pressure mapping systems are used by prominent universities, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and corporations around the world for a variety of applications. For more information on Tekscan and the F-Scan systems, visit the F-Scan In-Shoe System webpage, call 617-464-4500, or email marketing(at)tekscan(dot)com.
